Biography


Theo Tinkler studied historical and trad cello at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under Robert Irvine, David Watkin and Alison McGillivray. He won the ABRSM Postgraduate Scholarship to continue his studies in historically informed practice at the Royal College of Music with Catherine Rimer and Ashley Solomon.

Theo has performed with Florilegium, the London Handel Players and the Marian Consort, and with such artists as Larry Zazzo, Bojan Čičić and Sir Thomas Allen.

Theo’s Cello

Theo’s cello was made by Lockey Hill around 1780. Lockey was part of the great Hill dynasty of violin-makers (they are still going). But Lockey had a side line in rustling horses, and he was eventually caught, tried and executed in 1796. You can find out more here.
